The Wizard of Zo, I Mean Oz, in the Hodgepodge

Linking up with Joyce again for the Wednesday Hodgepodge.   Anyone surprised?  But I don't trust myself to walk on a yellow brick road wearing ruby slippers. I am wearing sensible black clogs instead as I type this post.

1. May is National Blood Pressure Month...what sends yours soaring, either literally or figuratively? What calms you down? When did you last have your bp checked?

Literally, both pain and fear send my blood pressure up.  Figuratively (and probably literally at times) someone hurting my child, being falsely accused, being criticized, getting rearended on the beltway during rush hour traffic (happened recently), being goaded rather than led by leaders,  falling/slipping/tripping, not being able to find something important, someone making me late,  seeing plurals made from apostrophes (as in "three plum's for a dollar"--makes me SCREAM inside), a child/husband/student/dog giving me attitude.  There are more.
.
What calms me down? Praying, talking to a trusted confidante, delegating things to a capable AND faithful person, getting the police to stop beltway traffic, taking a Sharpie to a sign and erasing misused apostrophes, hearing a genuine apology and extending forgiveness, and sometimes, ya know, a glass of wine. Or two.

Last had my bp checked at a physical, over a year ago.

2. You just found $1-what do you spend it on? How about 10$ 100?

$1 -- two Lindt chocolates @ 39 cents each at Michael's,  then pocket the change.
$10 -- lunch at my favorite bistro
$100 -- an outfit and shoes OR home dec OR art supplies OR ....I might dump it into my savings for my trip to Italy.  (Have I said here that's how I plan to spend my 50th birthday in 2 years?)

3. Mandatory labeling of genetically engineered (GE) food has been proposed, but not enacted in the US. How much attention do you give food labels before you buy? Are you in favor of labeling if it means an increase in food prices? Is this an issue you've been following and feel strongly about, or is this the first you've heard of the controversy?

I pay attention to sodium and MSG on the label for my husband's sake, gluten and sugar for my own.  I'm never in favor of an increase in food prices, but someone's got to pay for the chemists' time and expertise to let us know what's in our food if we don't grow it ourselves. We try to buy as much unprocessed stuff as possible, but my definition of "as possible" is stricter than other shoppers in the family whom I shall not name. I don't feel strongly enough about the issue to let it raise my blood pressure.

4. May 15th marks the birthdate of Frank Baum, author of The Wizard of Oz. At this point in time, are you more in need of brains, courage, heart, or a trip back home? Explain.

At this point in time, I need heart. A heart to forgive someone who wronged my child.

5. "There's no place like home" is an oft repeated line from Baum's book. When was the last time you felt the truth of that statement?

Monday afternoon I came home and realized how tired I was from a full weekend that had me going, going, going. It felt good to drop my stuff in my kitchen and feel the tension start to loosen.

6. Steak...yes please or no thank you? What cut do you prefer and how do you like yours cooked? Sauce or no sauce? Besides your own kitchen, where's a place you like to go to get a great steak?

Steak? Yes. Sauce? Not often, unless the steak is so-so or tougher than it should be. (I like to make Bobby Flay's steak sauce.) For great steak at a  good price, Outback. For for steak that is above and beyond in both taste and price,  there's a restaurant we went to for our anniversary (thanks to our daughter's Christmas gift plus kicking in our own cash).  The steak was so good I rubbed  my leg up againsr my husband's thigh under the table and told him it's almost as good as you-know-what.

7. When was the last time you were in a genuine hurry?

Yesterday I was in a hurry to get the bottom of an issue, to find the truth out about a serious incidence.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

How about I share some student artwork with you? An assignment I gave a few weeks back was for students to illustrate a Bible verse using scrapbook paper.

I love the art! Sorry for your child's hurt...that's always a knife to our mother heart too.

Awww.. I know how forgiveness and understanding can be hard to muster up sometimes. It definitely can seem more challenging in some cases than others! I wish you luck, and hope whatever issues will all work themselves out for you and your child somehow. Hmmm.. Come to think of it, actually, pour me a glass of wine too, would ya?! (0; In the meantime, I love all the artwork! Well done!... Nice meeting you via Wednesday Hodgepodge! ~tina

I think forgiving the ones who hurt our children is one of the harder things that God asks of us. I have struggled to forgive people who judge our youngest by the character of his siblings. It's hard enough for me to accept their judgment of me but to judge my son ... that's hard!

Love you, my friend!
