Help me Hunt?

Mother-of-the-Groom. That's a mouthful to say. It's also my title for awhile, and I like it. If you've been reading my blog, you know that our son is getting married in March to a lovely young lady. It's the first wedding for me as the mother of one getting married, and I am so glad I get to ease into it as the mother of the groom, not of the bride.

The time has come for me to get serious about finding a dress appropriate for the occasion. The "givens" are the wedding season (early spring), venue (an historic building in a small town in New Jersey), time (early afternoon), colors (pink and champagne), and budget (tight). Another given is that I hate the way I look in clothes right now. The only thing worse is the way I look without clothes on. But let's get that image out of our collective minds, shall we, so that you can enjoy the rest of your day?

According to wedding etiquette websites, I am supposed to wait for the bride's mother to choose her gown, and then coordinate with it. Not match (horrors!) and not stand out (twin horror!).
The trouble is, the colors are champagne and pink, neither of which looks good on me (washes me out because I'm an "Autumn"). Her mom looks much better in champagne than I do, and I believe she has chosen that color for her dress. So my choice would be to wear something along the lines of (how does my soon-to-be-daughter-in-love say it?) a "more browny" or "goldy" dress. We have decided to wear long dresses, which is fine by me. I love formal occasions.

If you would like to help me look online for dresses that might work, please leave links in my comment box. Search for the following:

1. Long dress
2. Goldy, browny tone :)
3. Under $75
4. With sleeves or jacket over sleeveless
5. Preferably NOT a round neck (I'm round enough; need V-neck,scallop or halter)
6. Not much, if any cleavage, showing
7. Super spandexed. Spandex is my BFF!

That said, it's time to reacquaint myself with a "friend" (the term is used loosely) whom I have not visited in quite a while. Her name is Tread Mill. She is not really a friend-friend because she usually burns me up. But she says it's for my own good, so like her or not, she's good for me.

Well, good luck on the dress search. I had mother of the bride dress choices this past summer, but since it was on a beach in Hawaii at sunset, it wasn't hard. That and the fact that I sew. I am sure that you well be beautiful in whatever you find.

Thanks, Marti. They had talked about a beach wedding, but we live on the East Coast and they got engaged in May and needed enough time to plan but not a whole year! So they're getting married in what used to be a church at the turn of the century (the 19th century, that is!).

It's a little over your budget but I think this would be lovely on mother of the groom:
